Our Love Story, Part 1

Our story begun in the spring of 2006 when I decided I would transfer to Mayville State Univeristy from the University of North Dakota. Little did I know that my love story would happen while I was at Mayville State. I probably hoped it would happen there, but knew there wasn’t to many options in Mayville. Mayville is a small town (about 1500 people) with a college in it, it’s a small campus with enrollment under 1,000. I had some good friends from High School who attend Mayville, and that helped me believe I would enjoy my new adventure at Mayville. In the spring of 2006 I toured the college, met with the volleyball coach, and spend a night experience what Mayville was all about with my girl friends from home.

I moved in with three girls in the June. I spent that summer living in Roseau, working at a daycare center, and loving life at the lake. When August arrived, it was time to head to Mayville for volleyball pre-season. Pre-season came and went and before I knew it school was starting. Classes started on a Tuesday. My class on Tuesday/Thursday mornings at 8 am was Marriage & Family. I discovered during practice one day that two of my teammates also had that class. So of course we all planned to sit by each other. We claimed our seats/table, which would end up being our seats the whole semester. BUT the key point to this story is, my love story. As class begun I tried hard to focus on what my professor, Dalton McMan, was saying and telling what to expect. But I had a hard time focusing as this cute “man” was sitting in front of me, one seat to my left. I vividly remember asking myself, “who is this cute man, and why is he still in college (I thought he looked like he was 24)?”

I kept those thoughts about this cute man to myself for about a week or two…then I asked the girls I lived with if they knew who this man was. “Oh yeah, Kenny!” “What, you know him…details!” By know my roommates figure it out that I had the hots for him. Ha! Within the next few weeks we had said hello and had small talk to each other.  I will never forget the first thing I actually said to him besides “hi.”

One day after class, as we were all walking out of the room, I couldn’t help but notice he was holding the back of his upper leg/butt. “Why are you holding your butt?” What a great line to start our “first” conversation.

Towards the end of September we had a small gathering at our house. I recall asking Chelsa, one of the roommates, if she thought Kenneth had heard about our gathering. “I’m sure; its Mayville was her response.” I recall sitting in our living room visiting with Sara Ziegler (Haugen) and he walked into our house. I’m surprised he didn’t notice my eyes, how big they got. Instantly I felt shy, nervous, excited, crazy, and a bundle of other feelings all at once. At some point in the evening we decided to head to a local establishment. Everyone jumped into vehicles and left. Me, being the responsible one…was the last one to leave the house. I ran outside and jumped in a car…and who did I find in the back seat? Yep, Kenneth. As we are driving to the local establishment I made the comment that I’m not supposed to be going to this place, because I’m not 21. “Hey, me either” says Kenneth. They asked how close I was to turning 21 and I said, “well my birthday is April 21st.” “No way, mine too!” Next we compared driver license to prove we actually had the same birthdays.

After that night we spent the next month sending each other facebook messaging. Here are our messages from October 26th, 2011

Audrey's Dedication

Audrey, on Sunday February 19th, 2012 we dedicated your life to Jesus Christ. Throughout the process of getting you baptized to become one of gods children, we learned that not only are we dedicating your life into the Christian world...but we as parents are taking responsibility for being your pastor at home. Your dedication day was a beautiful day. On this day, not only did you become a child of Gods, but so did your cousin Elsie. You are so lucky to be able to share such a special day with someone you will grow up with. You two are 1 year apart and are already best of friends. :) We chose some very special people in our lives to become your sponsors/godparents. Mitch & Becca Rue and Mike & Heidi Greenwood are your sponsors. As we learned at your dedication, if we as parents are unable to care for you...then these sponsors agree to care for you.

God bless you Audrey Jane.

everyone visits

This past weekend we celebrated Audrey getting dedicated to the lord, jesus christ. With that happening Sunday all of the Rues, Hayden's, and Greenwoods made the trip to Roseau for the weekend. Friday night Ruth/Dan & Heidi arrived and came to the basketball game. The night ended with card games. Saturday the boys went fishing and the Rues arrived in Roseau about 5pm. Saturday evening we had a Fish Fry with my parents, Heidi, the Hayden's, and the Rues. Uncle Mike couldn't make it to Roseau until Sunday morning as his band was playing at a gig in Grand Forks, Saturday night. It was a pleasure to have everyone in our house. Our house proved to be able to fit and hold a lot of people. More games played Saturday night. Sunday was spend to celebrate Audrey's Dedication. Someone forgot to pack Mitch's suitcase so he was able to shop in Ken's Closet for the weekend. We had monkey bread and doughnuts for breakfast, went to church, came home for lunch and celebration. I made BBQ's for lunch, I found a very basic recipe online, which were good.

BBQ:

1 pound of hamburger
3/4 cup of ketchup
1 1/2 teaspoon of brown sugar

After lunch we opened a few gifts, visited, played and hung out. It was a fabulous weekend to hang out with everyone, as we have not all been together since Christmas. It's always such a blessing to be able to be together, mostly because we all general get along so well. By 5pm our house was empty. Audrey went to the computer and asked if Becca could get out again. Whenever we skype with the Rues she always asks Mitch Out? Becca Out? Hayden Out? Braylee Out? She wants them out of the computer...so she was thrilled the last time she asked if they could get out...they did get out of the computer.

The three little children played so great together the whole weekend, even in church. :)
